Ayla, Ethiopia — July 2026

JULY SUBSCRIPTION

Ayla, Ethiopia

There is something really special about being able to follow the same coffee for seven years. It is a big part of who we are at Made of Many.

Ayla has become one of those coffees for us. Each season arrives a little differently, but there is always something familiar underneath it — that clean Ethiopian profile, soft florals, some citrus and some stone fruit. Always a strong representation of the Bensa, Sidama region. It helps us track Ethiopia's coffee quality across many years, builds a lens through which we can look at coffee, and contributes to our own coffee nostalgia.

Coffee is agricultural, so we never expect it to taste exactly the same from year to year. Weather changes, harvests shift, processing evolves, geopolitical turmoil happens — and the coffee moves with it. Being able to taste those changes over such a long period gives us a much better understanding of the coffee than a single season ever could, while also allowing us to pinpoint the vintage years in retrospect.

It is also a nice reminder that buying coffee does not always have to be about chasing what is new. Sometimes the most interesting thing is returning to something familiar and seeing where it has gone.

This is our seventh year with Ayla, and we are always happy to have an old friend back on the table.

We hope you are either enjoying it for the first time, or enjoying spending another season with it too.

Our warmest,
Ben
