Luis Ordoñez, Colombia — March 2024
MARCH SUBSCRIPTION
Hey subscribers,
This month's coffee was a really great exploration for us here at the roastery.
Luis Ordoñez, Colombia
Before Luis's coffee, I thought we have no need to buy coffees from Mexico. Mainly due to the flavour profile being more earthy and less fruit driven, the latter being our preference. The region of Amatenango de la Frontera in Chiapas, Mexico, is located right on the Guatemalan border. We find the coffee too more closely resembles coffees of the Huehuetenango growing region in Guatemala.
It wasn't just the profile, Luis' story also stole our hearts. He is a producer with a good heart and great intentions for his local coffee growing community. He is planning on building a centralised wet-mill on his land, so he is able to process his neighbours' coffee and offer them fairer prices for their coffee cherries. He sees that the other coffee cherry buyers in the area can/have taken advantage of the community and buy up their coffee cherries for far too cheap.
Needless to say, we believe in his cause and hope his wet-mill idea comes about as soon as it is viable for him.
We partnered with a newer importer, Osito, to bring this coffee to you. We have such a great connection with Jordy, the Osito representative, he oozes care and thoughtfulness and this is something we are so drawn to when working with someone.
We hope that this is just the start to both of these very special relationships.
Trust you have been enjoying the coffee and maybe can even more so, knowing that it is grown and sourced by some incredibly beautiful humans.
Kindest regards,
Ben
