Mamani Family, Bolivia — April 2022

APRIL SUBSCRIPTION

Mamani Family — Bolivia

For this month's subscription, I wanted to showcase the Mamani family's coffee. It is a coffee that is produced by a family that works so hard to build up the coffee growers around them. The Bolivian geography is perfect for coffee growing, with a great altitude and also a very temperate climate for slow maturation of coffee cherries. The history of this region is not steeped in growing quality coffee however, it is a region previously used for the Bolivian drug trade via the farming of poppies.

The switch to growing coffee is more than just an ethical move; it has also meant healthier farmland too, as the poppy is very demanding and strips the land. More recently, the education around growing and processing quality coffee has meant the local farming families are seeing great returns for their hard work.

The Mamani family has earned much respect for sharing growing, harvesting and processing practices. They are truly raising the quality of life through the pivot toward quality-focused farming.

Bolivian coffee is not big for acidity nor is it extremely complex. Bolivian coffee is subtle, delicate and unique in the way that it has a creamy mouthfeel, but it is clean and light on the palate. There are some lavender-like florals and a bit of dried fruit flavours in the cup, but honestly I enjoy drinking this coffee knowing the amazing work that got it into my hands. It is a coffee with a great story and a beautiful future.

Any questions please get in contact. Would be more than happy to chat coffee!
