Moses Venapoe, Papua New Guinea — January 2023

JANUARY SUBSCRIPTION

Moses Venapoe, Papua New Guinea

I had the pleasure of drinking solely this coffee while I was away on a family trip last week. I was using a coffee brewer called a Tricolate (tricolate.com), which is a great no-nonsense brewer that is super hard to mess up a brew. I played around with water temperature and grind but kept everything else the same. I was so happy to see the coffee exhibit different angles of flavour with the various changes I made. Some brews were very big and juicy, while others were more mellow, sweet and herbal (in a delicate way). Most of the time the coffee had great clarity and was really balanced.

All these things I am saying about this PNG coffee were never said about PNG a few years ago. It was an origin that was unexplored and wildly inconsistent.

We live in a magnificent time where information is vast and communication and marketing channels are more abundant than ever. All these things helped get PNG coffee to where it now is, and will continue to improve into the future. There are people, like Moses Venapoe, who are building places (wet-mills and dry-mills) that reward quality work, communicate how to improve, and also connect coffees with people who will pay a price that reflects the time, work and commitment that goes into growing coffee.

We are committed to Moses' work and have now purchased his coffees with the help of one of our importing partners, InterAmerican.

Hope you find a relaxing way to enjoy this coffee and can look forward to the next harvest and the improvements that are made each season.

Warmest regards,
Ben
