Flavour Notes - Blackcurrant, grape & panela

Finca La Esperanza is a one-hectare farm located in a sacred valley that sits below the mountains that separate Huila and Cauca. This magical place, where the sun always shines, is the home to Emiliano Susatama and his family. Before becoming a coffee grower (when he was just 17 years old), Emiliano was a coffee picker, migrating from town to town and farm to farm. After a few years of this transient life, he decided to search for something more stable and over time he worked towards owning his own farm and producing his own coffee.

His main incentive to start producing specialty coffee was his family; it was the only way that he could produce coffee and receive enough of an income to sustain and give them a better life. He is thankful to Caravela for offering a way to obtain better prices, which in turn has helped him improve the quality of his life. PECA (short for 'Grower Education Program' in Spanish) has also had a huge impact on how he manages his farm and he values being able to continuously learn more about coffee with them. Emiliano says that coffee is responsible for everything he has in his life, including his wife, as they met on Finca La Esperanza while she was working there as a picker. In the long-term, Emiliano would love to enlarge his farm and to grow more coffee.
